Introduction To Islamorada Piles Classification And Testing Methods

The support to any structure is provided by its foundation and this foundation is built on the Islamorada Piles. There are different types of piles that facilitates in the transferring of the load to the lower layers of soil or rock. This ensures that the foundation has the desired load bearing capacity that is suitable for the specific structure according to its characteristics. The different types of foundations available are meant for different types of applications based on different considerations. These are ground condition, the nature and amount of load support required, cast, water presence, durability, noise and vibration sensitivity, accessibility, load exerted on the piles and immediacy to other structures.

Special type of foundation

If you look at foundations very broadly, there are two specific categories of it namely, shallow and deep foundations. Shallow foundations are used when the load imposed is low as compared to the bearing capacity of the soil. Deep foundations, on the other hand, are used when the load bearing capacity of the soil is very low as compared to the load imposed by the structure. It transfers the load deeper inside the soil layers. The Islamorada Piles are special type of deep foundations. These are long, columnar and slender pillars made from timber, or reinforced concrete, or steel. A foundation is said to be a ‘pile’ when the length of it is three times the breadth.

Classification of pile

All super structures built on weak soils and even water will have Islamorada Piles to transfer the load deep within. These piles actually increase the effective and eventual size of the foundation to resist-horizontal loads. These piles are classified according to the basic design, function, and method of construction. There are actually two modes of constructing the piles. One is called the displacement method commonly called as driven method and the other is replacement method, also called as boring method.

Function of the piles

The function of the Islamorada Piles also plays a significant role in the classification process. There are two specific functions performed by the piles. The end-bearing function of the piles involves developing most of the friction at the toe of it. this toe bears on the harder layer of the soil. The pile therefore can transmit the load easily to solid strata and receive lateral restraint from the subsoil.Friction or floating function deals with the maximum load and stresses on the sides of the pile and used in weaker soils. The friction between the soil and the pile surface reduces the bulb of pressure while transmitting the load deep down inside.

Testing the piles

All piles created are tested rigorously by the engineers to see the amount of load it can actually bear. While testing, each one of the piles is tested per scheme. At trial pile is made in its close proximity. This however does not become the part of the actual foundation. The pile is overloaded by 50% of its actual bearing capacity and is left like that for 24 hours. If it holds the load for that period it is approved. For more information visit Our Website
